Sir Bruce Forsyth, Alexei Sayle, Arthur Smith and Jasper Carrott Support our "Die Lauging" Competition.
We are running a stand-up competiton for new or established acts aged 55+ through my company Silver Comedy in partnership with Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival. Various mature comics have given us quotes in support:
"You're never too old to be funny ... sometimes it even helps!" Sir Bruce Forsyth
“I am delighted to lend my support to the Silver Comedy competition. Anything that provides an antidote to all the young upstarts taking over the comedy scene has to be a good thing.” Alexei Sayle
“Having reached 55 you finally realise that the word 'Poo' is not the basis for all stand-up routines.” Jasper Carrott
“Untroubled by the need to visit night clubs or 'be cool' , the old survey the world at a longer perspective and are funnier than the screaming youngsters. Who is funnier - Barry Cryer or Jedward? The old repeat themselves, the young have nothing to say - the boredom is mutual. The old repeat themselves, the young have nothing to say - the boredom is mutual,” Arthur Smith.
Heats and the Final will be held on 17th February 2011 in Leicester at Embrace Arts in Lancaster Road, LE1 7HA and it is free to enter. Anyone aged 55 and over can enter regardless of previous experience and there will be two titles to be won: "Silver Stand Up Of The Year" and "Best Silver Stand Up Newcomer". See more on the Leicester Comedy Festival site.
We are also offering a full day's training to help entrants develop their acts on 10th February at the same venue. This will cost £25 per person. Course details on the Leicester Comedy Festival site.
