Would you like to:
* give stand-up a go and see if it's for you?
* Create 5 minutes of new material?
* warm-up before open-spots?
* prepare for the full Stand-up: Techniques and Inspiration course (which leads to a live performance in a comedy club)?
Then this short, interactive intro could be ideal. Get a taste of stand-up comedy, learn some writing and performing techniques and try out some material in front of the group.
It's a safe, approachable introduction to writing and performing stand-up for complete beginners in a supportive environment. It also works if you have some experience and would like to create new material and gain fresh insights into the writing process.
Each week we watch and analyse stand-up comedy performances on a big screen, uncovering all sorts of techniques and approaches to being funny - as well as gaining inspiration for writing material. At the end of the session a brief is given for you to respond to in your stand-up writing. The following week you will have the opportunity to present this work-in-progress in a small group.
This is all leading up to doing 3 to 5 mins of material for the whole group in the last session. By this final session you will have written a lot of material from which to choose, and will feel used to, and comfortable with, standing up and presenting your work.
