STAND UP COMEDY: TECHNIQUES & INSPIRATION

Wednesdays
6.30pm-9.45pm
8th September - 10th November 2010

Clock House pub

82 Leather Lane

London EC1N 7TR

10 Weeks

WAITING LIST ONLY

* Gain confidence and learn the skills and techniques of stand up

* Discover your stand up persona

* Create material that works and perform it in a London comedy club

* Open spots for every student at the nationwide Mirth Control comedy clubs

Come and develop your stand up act, work on finding your persona and gain a host of technical skills, which you will put into practice in the final show in a central London comedy club. Open spots on the circuit are then on offer for all participants.

We'll find and develop the persona, style and delivery that work for you. There will be exercises in the sessions to inspire material and every week you will have microphone time to show your routine and receive feedback. And we develop the skills needed for joke writing and honing and crafting material.

You’ll work on being responsive to the audience, so they are then responsive to you - and on how to work a crowd and own the stage. There is a lot of work on the "live", conversational nature of stand up, creating a feeling of spontaneity and intimacy.

The course ends with a live show in a London stand up venue. This is always a really buzzing and friendly night.  And the course features a Q&A with leading comedy promoter Geoff Whiting who books for 90 clubs around the country. He will answer all your questions about working the circuit, and will give all participants open spots at his clubs.

Read all about the course in The Guardian and listen to a BBC radio report on it, in the Media Coverage section.

Fee: £180
